Wheatstone is a Chevron operated natural gas field about 200 kilometres north of Onslow in Western Australia. Its gas fields in the Carnarvon Basin will form the foundation for the Wheatstone Project.
Wheatstone will bring enormous economic benefits to Australia:
The project will create about 6,500 direct and indirect jobs at the construction peak.
Wheatstone will also create about $17 billion in local content spending over the project’s life.
The Wheatstone gas fields are located about 200km (124 miles) north of Onslow off Western Australia’s Pilbara coast.
In December 2008, Chevron selected a preferred site at Ashburton North – 12 kilometres west of Onslow on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia as the location for the LNG and domestic gas plant.
Chevron selected the Ashburton North site after a 12 month study and extensive community consultation to find the location most suitable from environmental, community, social impact and engineering aspects.
